Mount MOUNT Rose Alchemy is a one-woman show, run by Sarah Jane.

Mount Rose Alchemy started out as a way for her to reconnect with her creative self after graduate school. After working in direct-client services - having worked in reproductive health for some years - and being committed to social justice work for nearly two decades, she was inspired to support friends & community that largely care for others.

What started out as a desire to make botanically—inspired self care gifts to give to friends and family and trade with maker-friends, quickly grew into requests to buy her products.

Her creations are inspired by the physical and energetic properties of plants, nature and ritual. Every product she makes has a story and is lovingly made by hand. She’s dabbled with herbs and plants on and off for the last 15 years, including some formal training. She traces her interest in the magic of plants and her maker-spirit back to her DIY punk roots (although she’s truly a country girl at heart), growing up in rural CA and coming from a long lineage of makers in her family —going back generations to her great grandparents who were homestead immigrant farmers in Oklahoma.

Mount Rose Alchemy is more of a “life project,” for Sarah Jane - she takes a flexible approach to her business to ensure her work stays reflective of her current passions. What keeps her work magical is ensuring it's work that is inspired.

Sometimes that means a new batch of botanically-inspired candles from locally-foraged plants, or a one-of-a-kind art piece made from dried flowers and found bones. She describes her work through Mount Rose Alchemy as "botanically-inspired for home and body, and always lovingly handmade."

Over the last year, she’s been doing more “behind the scenes,” work on MRA- less markets and front-facing sales and instead working on her space and learning new skills. This includes building out a tear-drop trailer she can use for both markets & travel adventures, building out a website, re-imaging her workspace and thinking of ways to both stay local and take Mount Rose Alchemy on the road! Her latest creative endeavors have led to her explore: nature-inspired mixed-media embroidery, leather work and storytelling through collage. Inspired by being an avid treasure-hunting-thrifter and antiquer, she also recently started a small pop up vintage side project called Heavy Moon Vintage, where she started making bolos, wild statement earrings, and incorporating some of her candle making into vintage upcycled candle holders. She describes Heavy Moon Vintage as the intersection of rock n' roll and county, but weirder - with Motorhead as the perpetual soundtrack.

Sarah Jane’s “full time work” is in public health + research (both locally & globally). She considers herself a life-long learner, loves nature, sad country songs, her ridiculous adventure pup, travel, big bodies of water, grabbin’ gravel on her bike, doing shit that scares her, learning to play drums, laughter, exploring new mediums as a maker and going on adventures.
